Hino Rei's dub form of Raye is another often-hated character. Many people think of her as a conniving bitch, always bossing people around, saying rude things to everyone, and generally being a pain in the ass. Although her Japanese character portrayal is somewhat different, she's still a very... shall we say, "strong-minded" individual.

However, contrary to popular belief, Rei doesn't really hate Usagi. In acutality, she and Usagi are very good friends, and Rei only criticizes her in order to help her be the best she can be. (This is most obvious in episode 200 of the Stars series when Rei dies in Usagi's arms. It's so sad!)

Rei is learning to be a Shinto shrine maiden. Under the tutelage of her grandfather (who, in the Japanese series is really a dirty old man!), she learned the various arcane arts. Some of these are fire reading and the use of the ofuda, or small scroll which reads "Akuryo Taisan (Evil Spirits Begone)" and is not one of her Mars powers as is depicted in the dub. She uses these abilities to assist the Senshi. She can often detect "bad vibes", as they're referred to in the dub, that alerts her to enemy presence.

She also uses these talents to find which direction the senshi should go when they're lost or unsure of where they should head... (There's a funny scene between her and Michiru in Stars when the two use their sixth-sense-like abilities and both firmly announce, "We go this way," while pointing in opposite directions.)
