Usagi
is the klutzy, crybaby herione of the show. No one would ever have
guessed that an irresponsible, immature junior high student would
turn out to be the legendary Moon Princess.
OK,
so I know it sounds like I'm ripping on Usagi, but that is
the way she starts out. To her credit, she eventually learns
to take her responsibilities as Sailormoon seriously. Over
a period of time spanning 5 seasons, 3 movies, and a special (not
to mention innumerable musicals), Usagi matures, and, though she
still acts ditzy on occasion (OK, most of the time), you realize
why she deserves to be the one and only Sailormoon. Along with her
friends; her future daughter, Chibiusa; and her love interest, Chiba
Mamoru (aka Tuxedo Kamen), Sailormoon fights for love and justice
no matter what the cost. (And no, she does not sound like
a 40-year-old smoker trying to be a valley girl in the original
version.)
Honestly
I could say a lot more about her, but I really don't want to spoil
anything for those of you who haven't yet seen the later seasons...
(And I don't count the dub as having seen the later seasons. They
hacked it too much to appreciate Usagi-chan's metamorphosis.) Suffice
to say, I started out hating her because she whined too much and
she was annoying, but later she really grew on me and I realized
just how sweet and innocent she is - not to mention the great sacrifices
she makes for everyone.
