**There are some spoilers on this page (SailorStars).**

Seiya is usually everybody's favorite of the Starlights... He's in an idol band called the Three Lights with Taiki Kou and Yaten Kou.

Seiya definitely thinks he's cool, and always acts the part of a young idol star perfectly. He acts suave with the ladies (which, personally, I consider rude and annoying, but most of the girls in the show would practically faint if he so much as looked at them). Often, however, his behavior backfires on him, especially with Usagi.

He first sees Usagi in the airport when she's seeing Mamoru off to America, and then later bumps into her when she's trying to sneak behind the scenes of an on-location Three Lights movie shoot. She doesn't recognize him, which ruffles him a little to say the least. When they turn a corner and knock each other over later, Usagi says something about how rude he is, and he tells her, "Most girls would be happy to bump into me."

It isn't until the Three Lights begin to attend Usagi's high school that she realizes who he is. He obviously has a crush on her for the whole series, even though he knows she has a very serious boyfriend. (A lot of fans think Usagi would be better off with Seiya... Even though he's a bit full of himself, his heart's in the right place.) He even goes so far as to tell Usagi to meet him in the park for a date (though she doesn't realize that's what it is).

None of the Starlights get along well with the Outer Senshi (or the Inners, for that matter, but not for lack of Sailormoon trying)... But Seiya in particular is the object of Haruka's hatred most of the series. (Those two are hilarious together! She tries to punch him out the very first time she sees him... Of course that is in Michiru's dressing room...) Even though his fellow Starlights, as well as the Outers, are trying to keep him from seeing Usagi, he perseveres.

Seiya finally realizes his relationship with Usagi will never work out when she tells him she hasn't heard from Mamoru since he left for America. She starts to sob and say that she wants to see Mamoru. Seiya comforts her, but asks in a wounded tone, "Aren't I good enough?" (It's actually very sad...)

Basically, despite his rough edges, Seiya's a great guy. He tries his hardest in whatever he does, whether it's trying to find Princess Kakyuu, defending what he thinks is right, or trying to win Usagi's affection.

A Note On The Three Lights:

Seiya Kou, Taiki Kou, and Yaten Kou are not brothers, and if you're confused about their names, yes - Kou is their first name. They all have the same first name. They are called by their last names to avoid confusion. I know some people argue this point, but I don't want a bunch of people e-mailing me to tell me I have it wrong - I'm going by what I've seen and heard in the anime, as well as what's written on Hitoshi Doi's Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon Page. Hitoshi Doi's site is one of the foremost informational sites on the series. Go through the three Starlights pages and look at the kanji for their names. "Kou", or the very last symbol in their names, is obviously their first name. Don't forget that the family name comes first in Japan.

As far as the whole guys-changing-into-girls thing, I'm only going by the anime. I'm not 100% positive about what the story is in the manga - I've heard so many conflicting things that I don't want to give any specific view as fact until I hear it from someone who speaks Japanese and has read the entire original manga, not a translated version. In the anime, the Starlights are originally women on their planet. They disguise themselves as men when they come to Earth looking for Princess Kakyuu, the ruler of their planet that was destroyed by Galaxia. Their reasoning is that it will be easier for them to find her if they become an idol band with a large female fan base and try to send her their message through their music. If you watch their transformation sequences, you'll see that they definitely...take on more female qualities (o.O) when they become the Starlights.
